Introduction
In addition to traditional scholarships, which certain students of the Ecole du Louvre are eligible for, there are a number of other scholarships and financial aid dedicated specifically to the fields of specialisation of the Ecole du Louvre (heritage, art, archaeology,…).
Scholarships
Requests for scholarships based on social criteria are made within the framework of the student social file (DES) on the CROUS website of the academy on which the student depends at the time of the request. The DES allows you to request, from the same file, a scholarship based on social criteria and accommodation in a university residence.
The DES must be constituted each year at the same period (January 15-April 30) without waiting for the exam results.
The scholarships are paid directly by the CROUS.
Maintaining the scholarship is subject to conditions of progress, course attendance and exam attendance. Failure to comply with any of these obligations may result in the repayment of the funds received by the student.
If their studies are interrupted during the school year, the scholarship student is required to inform the Ecole du Louvre.
Students benefiting from a scholarship based on social criteria are exempt from registration fees. Students who have applied for a scholarship are temporarily exempt from fees while awaiting the final decision. Students who have not obtained a scholarship will be summoned before the end of the first term to pay the registration fees.
Scholarship students are also exempt from social security fees.
Students at the school are eligible for one-off emergency aid and specific annual aid (ASAA) managed by the CROUS.
ASAAs are allocated, under certain conditions, to students in difficulty who do not meet the criteria for granting scholarships based on social criteria.
Crédit Agricole Île-de-France Mécénat for Ile-de-France heritage
The two missions of Crédit Agricole d’Île-de-France Mécénat are the preservation of the Ile-de-France heritage and the support of young talents of excellence.
In 2022, Crédit Agricole d'Île-de-France Mécénat became an Ecole du Louvre sponsor by offering four scholarships to four Master 1 students working on Ile-de-France heritage, each year for three years. The objective is to support students with an excellent profile who are most in need, while promoting research and the promotion of Île-de-France heritage.
The Fondation Simone and Cino Del Duca housed at the Institut de France
Created in 1975 by Simone Del Duca in homage to her husband, sponsor and great press boss, the Fondation Simone and Cino Del Duca has been housed at the Institut de France since 2005. Its aim is to promote the arts, literature and sciences in France and abroad.
Since 2022, the foundation has supported three students from the Ecole du Louvre specialising in “History of Cinema” through a scholarship, allowing them to devote themselves fully to their studies.
Fondation Antoine de Galbert
The Fondation Antoine de Galbert, after the closure of the Maison Rouge, refocused its sponsorship activities to different areas, always linked to contemporary art, art history and its key players. In 2019, it became a sponsor of the Ecole du Louvre, as part of the development of its third cycle and its research activities.
Research and mobility grants were first given out and offered doctoral students the ideal conditions for them to carry out and successfully complete their work.
After considering applications, several students are selected each year for the originality and quality of their work in art history and museology and benefit from this exceptional support.
At the same time, sensitive to the situation of students since the pandemic, the foundation has funded life grants for first-year students since the 2020-2021 school year.
L'Académie des beaux-arts
The Académie des beaux-arts is one of the five academies which form the Institut de France, also made up of the Académie française, the Académie des Sciences, the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres and the Académie des Sciences morales et politiques. Its aim is to “contribute to the defence and illustration of France’s artistic heritage, as well as to itsdevelopment, while respecting the pluralism of expressions”.
In order to fulfil its missions of supporting creation, the Académie des beaux-arts pursues sponsorship action in diversified forms in France and abroad: granting numerous prizes to beginner or established artists, organisation of competitions, funding of artistic residencies, and awarding aid to artistic projects, events or associations. It also maintains an active partnership policy with a large network of cultural institutions and sponsors.
Sensitive to the actions of the Ecole du Louvre in favour of equal opportunities, such as the opening of the Student House and the establishment of life scholarships, and faced with the growing need for financial support for the youngest and most vulnerable students, the Académie des beaux-arts has offered its support to offer ten life scholarships, particularly to first-year students homed at the Student House, for the 2022-2023 school year. In 2023-2024, the Académie des beaux-arts has renewed its support by offering five life scholarships.
Fondation Étrillard
The Fondation Étrillard is a non-profit organisation under Swiss law. In accordance with the wishes of its founder, it is active within the canton of Geneva, in Switzerland, and in Europe, mainly in France, Italy and Germany, and encourages all charitable and cultural initiatives reconciling European tradition and culture with the contemporary world.
The foundation has a collection partly accessible to the public and provides aid for restoration projects of historic, civil or religious places and monuments open to all. It also supports research and musical events contributing to the influence of original musical writings from the Middle Ages to the present day, as well as programs linked to the history of art and heritage.
The Fondation Étrillard has funded, via the Endowment Fund, life scholarships for fist-cycle students at the Ecole du Louvre since 2021.
Life scholarships from Fondation Meyer for cultural and artistic development
The Fondation Meyer for cultural and artistic development was born from the desire of its founders, Philippe Meyer (1925–2007) and Vincent Meyer, to create a lasting philanthropic entity with the ambition of supporting projects in the field of arts and culture and knowledge in general. A family foundation, it is driven by the desire to allocate its donations in particular to the training of young people through the granting of scholarships.
A loyal support of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, and even the Bonnard Museum, the Fondation Meyer became a sponsor of the Ecole du Louvre in 2020, via its Endowment Fund. Thanks to it, 10 students selected based on academic and social criteria have benefited from a life grant between 2020 and 2023. The Fondation Meyer has decided to renew its support by now becoming a sponsor of the Ecole du Louvre. Aware of the proven usefulness of these scholarships, it has made it possible to financially help 12 students per year since 2023.
“Military heritage and archaeology” life scholarships from the Fondation d’entreprise La France Mutualiste
La France Mutualiste is a mutualist insurance and savings advisory group which has developed from the outset around soldiers, their families and loved ones. Created in 2012, its corporate foundation's mission is to support and develop actions linked to the preservation and transmission of memory, more particularly aimed at younger generations "so that everyone plans for tomorrow without forgetting yesterday".
It is for this reason that the Fondation d’entreprise La France Mutualiste has been a sponsor of the Ecole du Louvre for three years, via its Endowment Fund, with the launch of three annual scholarships (2020, 2021 and 2022) intended for students studying military heritage and archaeology in first or second cycles. The Ecole du Louvre is in fact the only French higher education establishment to offer comprehensive training leading to a diploma on the subject since 1980, a course also open to external students.
The first winners of the three life scholarships from the Fondation d’entreprise La France Mutualiste were selected, according to academic and social criteria, in September 2020.
The Fondation d’Entreprise La France Mutualiste has decided to continue supporting the Ecole du Louvre by once again offering three scholarships per year to first or second-cycle students studying heritage and military archaeology until 2026.
Life scholarships from the Fondation Louis Le Masson and François Masson
Part of the Académie des beaux-arts, the Fondation Louis Le Masson and François Masson was created in 2023 in memory of these two brothers, who were an architect-engineer and a sculptor at the end of the 18th century. Its purpose is to support artistic creation and access to culture and art through the awarding of scholarships, support for researcher residencies and the organisation of prizes.
The Fondation Louis Le Masson and François Masson has decided to award two life scholarships for Ecole du Louvre students in financial difficulty for the 2023-2024 academic year.
Art Basel Paris + life scholarships
The Ecole du Louvre has been a partner of contemporary creation since 2022 by joining forces with Paris + par Art Basel, a major modern and contemporary art fair in Paris, and its public programme which presents a set of works by emerging and established artists, and engages in reflection on the place of art in urban space. As part of this event and this partnership, an educational mediation exercise is offered to Ecole du Louvre students. For the 2023 edition, around 30 works were presented and commented on daily by young art historians from the Ecole du Louvre.
As a continuation of this project and in support of Ecole du Louvre students, Paris + par Art Basel wished to provide financial assistance by offering two life scholarships awarded on academic and social criteria, in addition to the educational activities created in partnership with the Ecole du Louvre.
Fondation Clarence Westbury life scholarships
Part of the Fondation de France, the Fondation Clarence Westbury supports projects in different areas of general interest: culture, and more particularly modern and contemporary art, social action and medical research.
The Fondation Clarence Westbury was created in 2000 under the aegis of the Fondation de France, on the initiative of Jacques Boissonnas, entrepreneur and art enthusiast. This foundation is part of a strong family tradition of commitment and patronage, particularly in the field of modern and contemporary art, in France and abroad.
Reflecting its founder's attachment to culture and art, the Clarence Westbury Foundation supports modern and contemporary art, and in particular the creation of collections within museums dedicated to it. It also intervenes in the field of social action, promoting the care of vulnerable children and adolescents. Finally, the foundation funds medical research, paying particular attention to cancer research.
Having become an Ecole du Louvre sponsor in 2021 via its Endowment Fund, the Clarence Westbury Foundation finances life scholarships for first-year students each year.
Financial assistance
Financial assistance may be granted from time to time to second-cycle students to partially fund study trips, international seminars or compulsory internships.
Students enrolled in second and third cycles can benefit from assistance to enable them to deepen their research work and finance possible travel.
This assistance is awarded after examination of application files by a commission made up of teachers, students, representatives of the administration of the Ecole du Louvre and the Réunion des musées nationaux.

AGAL scholarship for Alsace-Lorraine residents (scholarships funded by the AGAL Association)
Each year, around ten scholarships are awarded to students from the French Alsace and Lorraine regions who are continuing their studies in Île-de-France.
These students are selected by a scholarship committee, based on a certain number of criteria: studies pursued, income and geographical origin of the students, in order to respect a strict balance between Alsace and Lorraine.
Applications must be submitted by March 31 of the current year for the following academic year.
