Double diplomas
Introduction
Concerned with diversifying the career paths of its students, the École du Louvre has for several years been developing partnerships with establishments of excellence. Each double-diploma aims to combine the complementary expertise of the courses, and meet the expectations of new professions in culture and heritage.
At the end of the course, students graduate from both the École du Louvre and the partner institution.
The École du Louvre's two double degrees
The partnership between the École du Louvre and ESSEC aims to give committed students a solid grounding in both the world of management and administration, and that of museums and heritage.
Introduction
The double degree program between the École du Louvre and the École supérieure de sciences économiques et commerciales (ESSEC) aims to enable École du Louvre students to acquire skills in the field of cultural management, subsequently giving them the opportunity to move into professions related to patronage, the art market, museum management, and so on.
The double diploma program
The double diploma program was created by the two institutions to capitalize on the complementary nature of the courses offered, and enables students to obtain a diploma from each of the schools (the Graduate Diploma for the École du Louvre, and the ESSEC Grande École diploma). With this in mind, and in order to preserve the very essence of the two courses, the two establishments have built a cross-curricular study path, playing on alternating courses and internship periods.
For École du Louvre students, access to the double degree is in two stages:
- a preparatory year during which selected students will take pre-requisite courses at ESSEC (during the 3rd year of undergraduate studies),
- an application at the end of the preparatory year.
The partnership between the École du Louvre and the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po Paris) aims to provide committed students with solid knowledge, both in the social sciences and in museology and heritage management.
Introduction
The double degree program between the École du Louvre and Sciences Po Paris is a path of excellence reserved for a small number of students (5 per class), aimed at enabling École du Louvre students to acquire skills in the social sciences.
The double diploma program
The double diploma program was created by the two institutions by playing on the complementary nature of the courses offered there, and enables students to obtain a diploma from each of the schools
The double diploma concerns two courses in each of the two schools:
- The culture track of Sciences po's Master of Public Affairs and the professional track at the École du Louvre
- Sciences po's Master of History and the research track at the École du Louvre
This four-semester Master's program combines the complementary skills of the two institutions.
The first two semesters are spent in Paris, and correspond to the museology curriculum (history of collections, principles of conservation-restoration, mediation, heritage administration and management, etc.).
This course includes a dissertation of around 50 pages on an art history or museology topic. Students also have the daily opportunity to discover, analyze and comment on works of art and their presentation at the Louvre and other Parisian museums.
The aim of the two-semester study stay in Heidelberg is to train participants in the methodological foundations of scientific research and to develop their analytical skills and critical sense. Students write a Master's thesis at the University of Heidelberg, for which they will be able to draw on the library's specialized holdings.
Successful participation is formalized:
- at the École du Louvre, by a "Diplôme de muséologie" (after the first year) and a "Diplôme de deuxième cycle" accredited at Master level;
- at the University of Heidelberg by the degree of "Master in European Art History Studies";
- by the award of a certificate from the Franco-German University.
