Language tests

New entrants to the first and second cycles will also be required to take a language level test.

Your choice of language commits you to a full cycle of study, so it needs to be carefully considered.

In your decision, you should take into account your tastes and facilities, but also the area of specialization to which you are destined, as well as your possible wish to participate in one of the École's many partnerships abroad. (http://www.ecoledulouvre.fr/international)

The École du Louvre offers courses in German, English, Spanish, Italian and French as a foreign language (for non-French-speaking students).

For those entering their second year of undergraduate studies, an Arabic language SPOC is offered in partnership with INALCO. If you would like to take this distance learning course, please send an e-mail to: [email protected]

To take your language test in English, Spanish and Italian, please go to: https://self-gaia.univ-grenoble-alpes.fr/
You'll need to create an account, then watch the video tutorial before starting the test by entering the session code:

  • English: louv24ANG
  • Italian: louv24ITA
  • Spanish: louv24ESP

The test takes around 1 hour. It must be taken before July 25.

For German and French as a foreign language, download, save and then complete the documents below.

The language test in German or French as a foreign language must be returned before July 25 to [email protected].

Students in school who wish to change language will need to send a test in the language they wish to follow, as well as a covering letter explaining the reasons behind their wish to change. Language changes will only be granted on an extremely exceptional basis.

Preparatory class language test

Students in the classe préparatoire must take two language tests and send them to [email protected]

The École du Louvre offers courses in German, English, Spanish and Italian. It prepares students for both the written and oral exams. Students wishing to take these languages in the competitive examination are invited to enroll in the courses offered by the school. To enable the teaching staff to better define the needs of each student, candidates for admission to the preparatory classes are asked to take the corresponding level tests (whether you are taking the language in writing or orally; except for English: if you intend to take English in writing, take the test; if you are taking it orally, do not take the test; further information will be given to you at the start of the school year).
Agreements with other establishments exist for Latin and Greek.

The final choice of language courses can be made after the start of the school year. If you are undecided about which languages to choose for the competitive entrance exam, feel free to take as many tests as you like.
